Water-Resistant Gypsum Board

Covered with a water-repellent green face paper, water-resistant gypsum board is an excellent wall and ceiling construction material for high humidity areas. It may also be used as a base for the application of ceramic tile or other types of adhesively applied wall panels in most circumstances. Installed and finished like regular gypsum board when not covered by decorative wall panels, it provides a perfect blend of convenience, performance and durability.

*Limitations: Should not be used as a tile backer in tub and shower surrounds or in areas with a risk of continuous exposure to water such as swimming pool enclosures, steam rooms or gang shower rooms.

  • Easily and quickly installed using nail or screw application
  • May be used in residential and commercial applications
  • May be installed over wood or metal framing
  • Exposed surfaces not covered by tile may be taped and painted
  • Available in 1⁄2" thickness with regular water-resistant core and 5⁄8" thickness with a fire- and water-resistant core
  • Fire resistance classified by Underwriters Laboratories according to ASTM E1191
  • Available with a minimum of 93% certified recycled content on a dry-weight basis in accordance with ISO 14021 standards.

  • Should not be used as a tile backer in tub or shower or in areas with a risk of continuous exposure to water such as swimming pool enclosures, steam rooms or gang shower rooms
  • Should not be installed over a vapor retarder or on a wall acting as a vapor retarder
  • Maximum framing spacing when installed on ceilings is 12" for 1/2" thickness and 16" for 5/8" thickness
  • Should be stored, handled and installed to comply with industry standards GA216 & ASTM C840

Low VOC-Emitting Material:

Gypsum board products are third-party certified by Materials Analytical Services, LLC (MAS) to meet the performance standard established for low-emitting materials under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Program.

Sulfur Emissions Testing:

In emissions level testing for carbon disulfide and carbonyl sulfide conducted by Materials Analytical Services, U.S producted gypsum board was determined to be negative for sulfur off-gassing and is not considered a problematic corrosive drywall type.

Fire Resistance of 5/8" Type X Panels:

This material has been fire tested in accordance with the requirements of ASTM E119 and therefore may provide a fire rating of one or more hours, depending on the system in which it is applied. Because ASTM procedures require that fire tests be conducted on complete building assemblies/systems and not just on the board itself, the ability of any particular 5/8" Type X gypsum board to pass a specific ASTM fire test may well depend on factors other than the fire resistance of the gypsum board being tested. These factors include the other components used to construct the building system being tested, the manner in which the system is constructed and the inherent variability of ASTM fire tests.

To prevent damaging the finished edges, gypsum wallboards should be carried, never dragged. To protect them from weather and direct sunlight when storing gypsum boards, store them indoors. Care should be taken to prevent sagging or damage to edges, ends and surfaces and gypsum boards should be stored lying flat and neatly stacked.
